Performo Micky Toy: Did Disney copy Mickey Mouse?

Up for auction is a rare and controversial Micky Mouse bendable toy that was made by Performo Toy Company sometime in the late 1920s or early 1930s. The toy is in incredible condition for its age. The tail, arms and legs are still poseable. The lable "Micky" is fully intact on the front of the figure. Please see the pictures for more details. The Performo Toy Company made a line of popular character toys in the 1920s well before Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse. Its most popular character was "Micky Mouse" and t were a number of toys featuring his smiling face, including the toy offered It is asserted by many that the true inspiration for Mickey Mouse was this character created by Performo Toys. Performo Toy Company went bankrupt during the Depression and various former employees of the company have stated that the bankruptcy occurred because of lawsuits between Disney and Performo over the patents for Mickey Mouse and Micky Mouse. Recently I found what I believe is the most compelling visual evidence that Disney may have copied the Performo toy in creating Mickey Mouse. In addition to the pictures of the toy for sale, below is a photo of a porcelain table top for a childrens table that was made by Performo. It shows the popular Performo characters Micky Mouse and Wadee-Nodee Duck. The resemblance to Mickey Mouse is startling. The table top pictured is not for sale in this auction.
