Please note, we have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description:This listing is for an 18th Century English Period George III Chippendale Solid Mahogany Tilt Top Tea Table. This table has one of the most amazing patinas, brought out in the luster of a deep french polishing over the entire piece. Thorough oxidization has occured through the entirety of the table, with nearly black levels on the underside, the pedestal and under the legs. The top is a single solid incredibly wide choice selection of mahogany. It tilts on two rails, each connected with original handmade screws to the underside of the table. The rails connect to the head of the pedestal, shaped squarely with a chamfered underside, the pedestal tenoned through and splinted. The locking hardware appears to be original, or at least of period nature, with handmade nails securing the hardware. A small handmade brass piece secures the locking hardware to the pedestal. The pedestal is crisply turned in tight rings before culminating in a carved urn form. The legs incorporate the incredible cyma curve design of Chippendale era cabriole form, lightly flowing through sharp knees into well formed feet. The attention to detail is outstanding, with flowing form along the underside of the legs. Cut and carve marks are still evident along the underside of each leg, all three of which are secured with a hand forged iron bracket with hand made screws. This is a stunning piece with a glow that is rare and unprecedented. It is an outstanding selection for any serious collector of George III Period pieces with a fine taste in the art of furniture design.
