From the south of France comes this fabulous period 2 door period French country Armoire of the Louis XV rane. Shipped some time ago from a family estate of which we aquired if from in Westchester, NY. It has spend over 50 years in their estate and we are so pleased to have aquired it. Lovely in details and color with, what we believe to be, original hand-painted decoration throughout. Construction is of pegging with mortis and tenon to create a beautifully clean look, yet being sturdy. Dimensional carvings throughout. Take note to the lovely floral basket at the peak of the doors. What lovely hand-crafted metal grill doors with early silk fabric to shade the interior behind them and lovely finials that are bold and detailed to the tops. Each finial has cracked and then been repaired(as pictured). This truly is fine French history furniture showing all true details and quality of what 18th. C. French furniture is all about. Made during the rain of Louis XV, ca. 1770. Overall condition is as can be expected of such a period piece like this one. The patina is fabulous. I will try to the best that I can to describe a few condition areas -paint has has some flaking and chipping in areas. The front leg stretcher section has typical aging(pictured),it is not as bad as it looks though, still stands straight, tall and sturdy and is not cracked. The top support bracket(pictured) is damaged), but still sits beautifully on top. Beautiful period hinges are still in tact and work wonderfully. Overall, it could use a bit of attention to be completely restored. If fully restored, would be worth in the range of $15,000-$18,000. This is a quinticential shabby chic armoire and possesses much style which would accentuate any fine decor. This lovely armoire also breaks down quite easily for transport. Overall measures a robust 87" tall by 51" wide and 19" deep. Right door measures 67" tall by 21' wide and left door measure 67" by 25" wide. Good luck and good bidding to you on this lovely find... The Louis XV [Louis Quinze] (1723-74) style was characterized by free curves and the use of rococo ornament and chinoiserie . Rooms were smaller, specialized, and arranged for convenient use. Colors were delicate. Tinted wood, veneer, lacquer panels, marquetry, mounts by Cafferie and Pierre Gouthierie , and porcelain plaques of Sevres ware distinguish the designs. The style in its later phase was more restrained. Be sure to check out my other items from this estate and others in auction right now...
