RenataTebaldi was one of, if not the, greatest dramatic sopranos of the 20 th Century. Toscanini's often-quoted description of her voice as the "voce del Angelo" (voice of an angel) is only the beginning of attributes that would draw fans by the thousands to her performances around the world. In honor of her life and her February birthday this bag is being auctioned to benefit the small, but prestigious, Sarasota Opera Company of Sarasota , FL . This bag is a classic emerald green silk-satin, fold-over clutch purse with a small bow-shaped decoration. It appears to have been custom made (no mfgr mark) to match a gown in her favorite color. It measures approximately 10.25 X 4.5 inches (25.8 X 11.3 cm). This item is from Renata Tebaldi's personnel effects left after her death. It was provided by Tina Vigano, Renata's life-long friend and the executrix of her estate. We will provide a note further indicating authenticity on request. One of the photos is of the shipping envelope from Italy. This is an auction to benefit the Sarasota Opera. The winner must prepare money order(s) or a check made payable to "The Sarasota Opera," for the full amount of the winning bid. Shipping will be provided by the current holder of the piece. The item will be sent promptly, except in the case of a personal check, which must first clear.
