LOW STARTING BID! Peter Hurd (1904-1984) Born in the Southwest and originally destined for a military career, Peter Hurd quit West Point to study art. During a term at Haverford College, he met N.C. Wyeth, became his apprentice and then, with his encouragement, entered the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He eventually became part of the Wyeth family when he married N. C.'s oldest daughter, the painter Henrietta Wyeth. Nostalgic for the vivid New Mexico landscape w he spent his youth, he resettled t with his family in the 1930's. He is credited with sharing his discoveries with the medium of tempera with both N.C. and Andrew. A steadfast realist, he never ceased to find inspiration in the arid but colorful expanse of his native territory. Henrietta Wyeth (1908-1997) The oldest child of N.C. Wyeth and sister of Andrw Wyeth, Henriette was a child prodigy and was schooled by her father from an early age. N.C. sent her to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and she began to attract notice as a portraitist by the age of 16. She moved to New Mexico in 1929 with her husband, Peter Hurd. Henriette Wyeth searched for the essential in whatever she painted. Besides portraits, she also was known for her still lifes. 1977 Christmas First Day Cover Signed: "Peter Hurd " in pencil 6 1/2" by 3 5/8" Christmas stamp pictures painting of George Washington praying at Valley Forge minor surface blemish in blank lower area 1964 Charles M.
