PETER SMITH - FISHING BOATS, NEWLYN HARBOURan original gouache impressionist style painting by Cornish artist Peter Smith.Called Fishing Boats, Newlyn Harbour, it is signed lower left corner.Framed in a gilt gallery frame behind glass with cream mount, it is in great condition.Measures 34 x 25 cmOn the back of the frame a letter has been taped from the artist to a 'Carole' of a personal nature. This painting was obviously given as a Christmas gift.It will be shipped in its frame.I began painting seriously after moving to live on the Isles of Scilly in 1965, producing small impressionist oils outdoors. After studying for a fine arts degree at Falmouth College as a mature student I lived in the Penzance area of Cornwall in the late 70’s and early 80’s, where I was involved with the Newlyn and St.Ives artists whilst showing in mixed exhibitions further upcountry. Back on the Islands since 1987 I show at my Porthloo Studio/Gallery in addition to mainland galleries – in the past forty years the actual painting, both figurative and abstract in brush and palette knife is worked less in front of the subject and now in the privacy of my garden from memory and sketches executed out on the spot.Having exhibited at numerous venues over the last 30 years, my work is currently Displayed at the following Galleries:-Newlyn Society of Artists – since read more
