This stunning vintage art and craft era pottery Jardinière is both unique and outstanding. App. 8 1/2" high and 9" wide. The Jardiniere does not have any manufacturer's markings however, others on eBay have been more than generous in identifying this piece for me. The most complete description I was given for this piece is that it is a Peters and Reed piece, design name of Moss Aztec, and can be found on page 77 in Sanford's Guide, and that t was no value estimated. It is adorned with a graceful art nouveau (art deco) style of ladies in flowing gowns in relief. The base color is a brown mud tone with a moss green acid wash look and a true matte finish. After learning the maker and design name of this piece, I can add that I've now seen it online with name "Vestal Virgins" which is very fitting, looking at the women on the piece. The top band is decorated with an attractive leaf (appears to be grape leaf) design, also in relief. Weller, Roseville, Red Wing, McCoy and Burley Winter had been the names that had first come up when people saw it. Weller is the name that comes up first and most often. So for those that collect a number of different maker's pottery, but like to keep in a certain style, you may also find this piece an interesting new addition to your collection. One of the eBayers also said that she has an umbrella stand that is quite similar in design from Burley Winter. T are two hairline cracks on the piece. One runs about 3/4 of the way down the inside of the piece but does not show on the outside. I tried everything I could to get a photo of this but it does not show up in any photos. You can see that the piece has been used, but remains in good condition. The other is about 1" long on the inside. Both of these cracks can be seen on the outside top lip of the piece, for approx, 1" but do not continue down the outside side of the piece. These hairline cracks do not detract from the piece at all. I see no chips or cracks to the relief portions of the piece. This piece is being sold "AS IS". No returns or refunds.
