This is an envelope that contained a now-gone letter that was taken to the post office and mailed. Because it was mailed from Charlottesville, Virginia during the time that Virginia belonged to the Confederate States of America--Confederate States of America postage stamps were used. A beautiful condition cover--pristine. Just out of a fresh-to-market collection. It is a home-made evelope from brown paper. Blue "PETERSBURG Va. APR 23" (I believe an 1863 usage) cancel ties a BEAUTIFUL Confederate #11, huge margins at bottom and right, just in at the top. Addressed to "Mrs. Mary J. Stegar, Care of Mr. Wm.
