This is a 7 day no reserveauction for a Peterson Aran 120 briar estate pipe with a sterling silver band. Peterson has been making thousands of pipes in Ireland since the late 1800’s, and each one is spectacular. This is a carefully restored Aran 120 Straight Dublin estate smoking pipe adorned with a hefty sterling silver band. It fits nicely in the hand, well balanced, not terribly heavy. The P-Lip stem is unique to Peterson’s. It directs the smoke upward toward the roof of your mouth, eliminating “tongue bite.” This one is in great shape. Nice tight birdseye, no pits or dings in the briar, and one light bite mark on the stem. It has an easy draw, and a pipe cleaner passes easily to the bottom of the bowl. It has been fully cleaned and sanitized, inside and out. The stem, briar and sterling band have been restored to their original luster. It dates from around 1985. The hallmarks on the sterling silver band are as follows: The Hibernian symbol, denoting the pipe’s Irish origin. The Crowned Harp, the Dublin Assayers office’s symbol denoting that the purity of the sterling silver is 925 parts per 1000. The date hallmark, indicating the year the silver was assayed at the Dublin Assayers at Dublin Castle. In this case, the silver band dates from 1985 (U.)
