Petersons Magazine, Complete 1863 Civil War Edition in Good Condition. Hand-painted “high fashion” pictures n Very Good condition. Complete set of 12 issues for 1863. Good condition – binding tight, covers firmly attached. There are a few torn pages (2 clothing patterns and 3 regular pages are he ones I noted).
12 Hand-colored engravings are beautiful – see pictures. Also a number of hand-colored patterns. The book starts out with 4 pages of engravings and then the January 1863 issue of the magazine. Some general browing of pages and some tattered edges. Currently on EBay there are no similar books and individual monthly copies are going for between $20 and $50.00 each. Below is the only example of a similar book found on regular internet booksellers, note it contains only 6 issues, not 12 like the book being offered here. Book Description Philadelphia: Mrs. J. B. Kelley, 1863. Marvelous illustrations of "elegant" 1863 fashion, plus other illustrations, patterns, instructions, poetry, stories, more. Each of the full-page "Les Modes Parisienne" have some color, usually one, applied. Six issues of the magazine, from July through December 1863, bound in one volume with brown boards, leather spine and corners; gilt letting on spine; four raised bands on spine. Better than a reading copy, but definitely well-used, with some loose pages, damp stains, folds/wrinkles, tears, foxing/browning, more. Contents listed in front. There seem to be some pages torn out/removed, mostly near what seems to have been the cover areas; total missing would be fewer than 25. The brown boards have significant bumping, scuffing, rubbing, especially to corners and spine. . Presumed First Edition. Half-Leather. Fair to Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
