Bisque socket head with rounded facial modeling, large pale blue glass enamel inset eyes with prominent black pupils, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with accented pale lips, blushed cheeks, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over original Schmitt pate, Schmitt composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with flat-cut derriere and straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Bte SGDG 3/0 (head) Sch (crossed hammers, in shield, on derriere). Aux Enfants Sages Benon Bte Guiton Succ, Passage Jouffroy 13, 15, 17, Paris, Jouets dEnfants (body label). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1880, the doll was sold in the prestigious Parisian doll shop, Aux Enfants Sage. Value Points: superb little bebe with original wig, pate, body, body finish, boutique label, along with antique (possibly original) rose twill dress, undergarments, rose kid shoes signed C.C., matching hair ribbon, earrings.
