Brand New And in Mint Condition Rare Collectible George Petty "Ballet Shoes" 1947 True Magazine Calander Pin-Up February ZIPPO ! From the 1930s through the 1950s, George Petty was perhaps the most famous illustrative artist in America, rivaled only by Norman Rockwell. Petty was to the American woman what Rockwell was to the American family; and the ubiquitous Petty Girl was to print what Jean Harlow and Betty Grable were to film. Prior to the Petty Girl, t had been the girl on the magazine cover but never the girl in the magazine. In his work for Esquire magazine, for print advertisements, for calanders, and for much more, Petty created an American female icon anticipated only by Charles Dana Gibson's Gibson Girl. The Petty Girl, however, was no aloof cartoon: she was a warm-blooded, full-figured, all-color sensual creature that seamlessly combined sophisticated sexuality with girl-next-door sweetness. George Petty not only created a new American beauty; he was the true father of the pin-up, the magzine gatefold, and the first great master of airbrush illustration. Generations of artists since the 1930s have marveled at his groundbreaking airbrush technique, from his successor in the illustration of Esquire (and later Playboy ) pin-ups, Alberto Vargas, to such modern masters of the airbrush image as David Willardson. The lighter comes in all original packaging including the outer cardboard sleeve. It has the "trading card" and the original Limited Edition Certificate of Authenticity. The box is in excellent/near mint condition and the outer cardboard sleeve shows some wear as I have tried to show in the close-up. Great presentation display you will be proud to show in your collection! This is an extremely rare series and will only increase in value. Very nice! What more can I say...would make a great Valentines Day gift! Thanks for looking! Good Luck and Good Bidding! Payment Information
