A little Pez history as reported by What does PEZ© really stand for? PEZ© comes from the German word for peppermint, PfeffErminZ. PEZ© candy was created in Vienna Austria in 1927 by a man named Edward Haas III. However, the invention of the PEZ© dispenser did not occur until 1948. The first candies were only available in peppermint and were targeted at adult smokers. This is why the first dispensers (called regulars) were shaped allot like a cigarette lighter. The regular came in many unique "Designer" colors. Pink for the ladies, blue for the gents, and tailored to match any wardrobe. In the 1970's, Haas Food Manufacturing Corporation changed their name to Pez© Candy Inc. Their motto, "A Treat to Eat in a Puppet That's Neat!" PEZ© was introduced in the United Stated in 1952, as a marketing strategy to catch a new cash audience, children. The combination of fruit flavored candy and character headed dispensers has launched PEZ© Co. dispensers into the homes of millions. Since 1952, around 300 different character heads have been introduced. Many of these heads have been famous T.V. or cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse. But still, some of the most popular dispensers today are designs PEZ© Co. created themselves. Animals, Humans, Regulars and PEZ© Pals are some of the most interesting. The first U.S. PEZ© factory was constructed in New York while importing candy from Europe. Some say it's still t to this day (but closed). In 1972, PEZ© moved its base camp from New York to Orange, Connecticut, w the business currently remains. If you have any questions please contact me.
