Hi! Up for bids is a beautiful antique G.A.Pfretzschner violin, matching bow, and wooden case! The hand written paper label on the inside reads: Reproduction of Antonius Stadivarius 1721 - or it could be 1727 - G.A.Pfretzschner Made in Germany U.S. Zone. On the ebony piece of the bow, it reads: G.A.Pfretzschner, then t are 2 stars at the end of the name - this is perfectly legible! On the end of the wooden part, it reads Germany (I am guessing at this because some of the letters are worn off.) This had new strings and the bow was re-strung in 2,000. It does not look like it has even been used since then! The colors and finish on this are practically flawless! The wooden carrying case is in great stuctural shape. All of the latches work fine and the two pieces line up well when closed. Some of the black fabric has peeled off of it. I do not know very much about violins so I brought this to a reputable appraiser who specializes in high end antiques. He removed this from the case and was gone for about 15 minutes, researching. When he came back, he said he had wonderful news...This violin was built in the 1920's by a very famous German artist. His violins today sell for anyw from $1,000 - $1,200! He also told me that this is in excellent overall condition.I have a friend who plays in a blues band. She may stop over this week if she can work it into her schedule to play this. If she does,I will revise this listing and give you a full report on how nice it sounds! This violin measures ap. 23 1/2" long x 8 1/4" wide x 1 1/2" thick. The bow is 29 1/4" long. I usually do not put reserves on my items that I list, however, in this particular case, I do have it listed with a very low reserve compared to the actual value of this gorgeous antique musical instrument! Please email me if you have any questions or would like additional photos. Thankyou for viewing! Happy Bidding :0)
Hi Again! My friend that plays in a blues band showed up today to check out the violin. Her first reaction was "Wow! That is a beautiful violin! Look at the finish!" She played it and said the strings that are on it are ok for beginers, but eventually you would want to put better strings on it. She was guessing it had not been used for a long time because one of the tuning keys was tight - said it is a very easy fix. My friends and I were a captive audience while she palyed for a few minutes and we all agreed...the music that is produced from this violin is BEAUTIFUL!! Now I see why they are in such high demand! Oh,and in case you did not know...this is a full size violin. Good Luck! Please understand that if you are bidding on this and you don't live in the U.S., the shipping cost is much more expensive. Thankyou. Good Luck!
