Thisbeautiful wooden carving is quite special. It is known locally as a Bastidor or cage-doll due to the bottom portion of the body resembling a cage. This cage framework is usually covered with cloth made to resemble the figure’s skirt and may sometimes contain a hidden compartment accessible via a small door located behind the doll. This compartment serves as storage for religious relics or other small trinkets. Another great feature of this carving is the articulation of the arms. This articulation makes it easier to dress the doll up in lavish garments very similar to antique dress forms and mannequins from the turn of the century. It also allows the figure to be positioned in various poses. This great piece is done in the classical style characteri zed by excellent craftsmanship and perfect proportions. The face is very well-done and is quite lovely especially with its inset glass eyes. The figure has just the exact amount of wear giving it more character. It measures 19 inches in height and 12 inches across Item weighs approximately 1,100 grams OUR SELLERS LIST
