Original Photo Album w/ Discharge Paper There is still plenty of research to be done on this wonderful grouping which was obtained just this week. First is the discharge paper for Edward R. Kenly, Private of Company A, 62 nd Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry. The document does have some tear marks near the edges at the folds, but all of the content on the document is easily read, both the printed and written ink. I have scanned both sides of the document. Next is the photo album which contains a total of 38 CDV’s, when broken down include: 15 Military; 20 Civilian; and 3 Lithos. The Identified 15 Military Images Include: General George McClellan Major General Silas Casey Major General John J. Peck Major General John R. Kenly Colonel Samuel Black, 62 nd Pennsylvania Infantry Colonel Charles P. Morse, 142 nd NY Volunteers Major General Peck & Staff – Outdoor Shot 1st Lt. Sterling Pvt Flannigan – JJ Finigan – 12 th N.Y. Cavalry – “My Orderly” Rice – Not sure who this is. Lt John L. Goodwin, 57 th Mass Vols Capt Smith – On Back says he was paymaster Corporal Nicholson – Not sure who this is. Pvt William G. Turney, 62 nd Pennsylvania Infantry General Innis N. Palmer The Three Litho’s Include: Battle of the Monitor & Merrimack St. Martin’s Church in Baltimore Young Girl Reading a Book The inside page reads: "Presented to Edward Kenly by his friend and fellow officer Lieut Chas R. Sterling / New Bern N.C. / November 20th 1863." The photo album itself is in poor condition with the spine having given way and some of the pages are loose. The back cover is missing and most all of the images are identified both on the back of the image as well as on the back page of the album. Most all of the images do have their local back marks or are blank, with only a couple having an E&HT Anthony Back mark. I did not look behind every image, and some do have period ink inscriptions on them. This is a remarkable piece and you do not often find photo albums this complete anymore, although it appears that there are two empty slots in the albums. I did not scan the civilian images and some of then are I'd as well. There is atleast close to $2,000.00 worth of CDV's in the album when you consider that they are all I'd and in the original album, albeit a rough one. In most cases these get split up and sold individually and you never find one complete anymore. The album came directly from the family when I obtained it. Also, many of the officers are easily identifiable and have similar images of them on - which verifies that most of the men - and therefore I'm confident that the remaining folks in the album are too correctly identified. One of the images I pulled out was of Lt. Sterling - Peck's Staff - it is written in period ink on the back and written to Edward Kenly, which is who the album is too. The photographer's mark is Newbern. Other than the poor condition of the album itself - it is one of the most complete albums I have had in a long time.
