This is a Pickard cup and saucer in the Tomashecko Edelweiss Border pattern. The blank is marked Rosenthal Donatello on both the cup and saucer. It is also marked Pickard on the saucer only. It is not artist signed on the cup or the saucer. So few of this pattern are signed. What an intricate and painstakingly detailed pattern this is. If it were an automobile, it would have all the extras--gold borders and banding throughout. The way the gold on the handle flares out w it terminates is particularly dramatic (see photo.) It is in nice condition. No cracks or chips. The gold is not worn. However, the gold has a few extremely fine surface scratches that can only be seen by close inspection and only by getting the light just right--not at all detracting. And to be even more nitpicky, t is a tiny dot of discoloration on the inside of the cup--in the making and glazed over (see photo.) In the photo, all of the white spots are glares from the photo. The small spot is darker and is located at twelve o'clock. Obviously, a slight error of the artist while decorating--hardly noticeable. The cup is 3 1/8" in diameter narrowing slightly at the top, and 1 7/8" in height. The saucer is 5 5/8" in diameter.
