Pierre Pasquier Old Antique Ballet Dancing Watercolor Painting French Artist Pierre Pasquier (1731-1808) Titled: "La Dansomanie" - NO RESERVE - Currently, I am having my "Dynamic December Fine Art Sale." This sale features 2 paintings an evening, in separate auctions and features several paintings that were done by listed and famous artists. New Orleans Auction Galleries` Catalog (Lot 922) Description This is the second of two paintings that I am offering in separate auctions by Pierre Pasquier . Both paintings' provenance includes New Orleans Auction Galleries. Included is a digital image (last image) of the page that describes this and the other painting that I am currently offering by Pasquier from New Orleans Auction Galleries' catalog (lot 922). The first painting, "La Lecon De Musique" , is pictured in N.A.G's catalog and can be seen in my other Pasquier auction. N.A.G. did not picture this painting in their catalog. The catalog is not included with the painting. What a pleasure to have the opportunity to offer not one, but two ORIGINAL PAINTINGS (in separate auctions) that were done as illustrations for the French satirical magazine, "Le Bon Genre" (1800-1822) ! Essex "All Prints and Maps" shop owner wrote (web: /lebongenre/lebongenre.html) , "The Bon Genre was one of the earliest series of prints (and paintings) to document the social trends and leisure activities of contemporary Parisians. It is notable in that it is the most important fashion portfolio of its time because it pictures, through its caricatures, the rise of the modern city of Paris with its bourgeois fashions, recreations and dating customs. Its popularity influenced the fashion plate journals that followed as well as the satirical albums so typical of mid-19th century France. Overall, Le Bon Genre bears witness to the historic and colorful episode of Parisian social history at the end of the French revolution which saw the rise of a new "republican era." Again, this is not a print, but one of the original paintings used by "Le Bon Genre" and was done by the famous French artist- Pierre Pasquier . Pasquier is an artist that has been sold by more than a half-dozen major auction houses, including Sotheby's, Christie's and Bonhams. Titled "La Dansomanie" , this is a painting that depicts some of France's bourgeoisie performing ballet. Satirically, Pasquier made certain to include a violin player and a young lady looking at herself in the mirror. This was painted during a time in history that cannot be duplicated- 1804 . ITEM DESCRIPTION: This watercolor on paper measures 15" by 18", with its' frame. The actual painting measures 8.5" by 11". The painting is signed by Pasquier , on the lower left. It is also titled "La Dansomanie" (lower center) and dated "a Paris, eu 1804" (lower right). The painting has toning and a couple specks of foxing. Some faint white marks are on the paper that appear to be the result of an inexpert attempt to remove other areas of foxing. These areas account for about 6%-8% of the painting's total surface area. The 2.5" wide, contemporary giltwood frame and matting are in excellent condition. To minimize the risk of damage during shipping, this framed painting will not be shipped with glass. When examining the painting under the ultraviolet light, I did find evidence of inpainting. Inpainting accounts for about 6%-8% of the painting's total surface area.
