This old, clear glass bottle was made for Pilgrim Brothers and Co. in Hamilton Ontario. They were early manufacturers of "pop" (considered temperance drinks). The bottle likely originally held ginger beer. The company was around for a while and the name and logo on this bottle date it between 1893 and 1912. It is crisply modeled with the company name, an eagle-holding-shield emblem, and Hamilton, Ont. The bottle was made to take a crown cap closure, which was introduced in the U.S. circa 1891. I am no expert, but I do not believe this is an Owens machine bottle and would favor a date in the late 1800s or very early 1900s - feel free to contradict. The bottle does have distinct mold lines down either side. The heavy bottom is strongly indented. Numbers in a fairly large script are faintly visible on the bottom - it looks to me like 232 in raised lettering on top of another 232 done the same way. The bottle stands 10 ¾" tall and is about 3 ¼" across. It holds 24 fl oz (1 ½ pints) filled to the top. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. It does need a good cleaning. The back shows some light rubbing to the finish. The front is bright. Shipping will cost $21.50 to the continental U.S. Probably less expensive in Canada, but ask first. Pick-up is not available. International bidders are welcome, but always ask first - read more
