Michael and Nigel were particularly impressed at the time by the assertion of famous architect and visionary Buckminster Fuller that we should view our planet Earth as a space craft. This poster was one of their most popular when first issued. Yarrowstalks also published an underground newspaper in Philadelphia and London in 1967. It was best known for printing Robert Crumb’s comics, including the first Mr. Natural and Head Comix, culminating in an all Crumb comic issue. Yarrowstalks also encouraged Crumb to create ZAP Comics. --------------------------------------------------- A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: "Sometime during the Fall of 1967 Yarrowstalks Newspaper landed at the doorstep of Indica Books on Southampton Row in London. Indica Books also published IT, the International Times, a fellow underground newspaper. There was also an Indica Gallery, in Masons Yard, Duke Street St. James, run by John Dunbar who produced many successful art openings. John Lennon met Yoko Ono there during her show. We had just published the first comic issue of R Crumb, featuring Mr. Natural, in the States, and were looking for a space in the UK to spread the laughter. When John Dunbar was anxious to travel to the Himalayas, Yarrowstalks Newspaper briefly took over the Indica Gallery and renamed it the Yarrowstalks Gallery. Yarrowstalks' most exciting show was with London’s Michael English and Nigel Waymouth, partners in the poster company, Hapshash and the Coloured Coat, who’s artwork promoted the Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendricks and Soft Machine at the UFO Club, Round House and Saville Theatre. The opening was combined with the release of their first album called Hapshash and the Coloured Coat and the Heavy Metal Kids, performed by every conceivable artist in London. The BBC and European television cameras captured the cacophony of personalities, sounds and colour and the party continued for the next few months. Following the show, Hapshash agreed to have Yarrowstalks publish a very limited edition of some of their posters, which included Jimi Hendrix, Arthur Brown, Soft Machine, Pink Floyd and Save Earth Now. We had been looking for a "way out of here…" a la Dylan, along with a burgeoning tribe of hippies who were discouraged by the events of the 60’s – the assassination of the president, race riots and the Vietnam war, among other things. In London we found a wealth of brilliant, hilarious and sympathetic companions. But after four months the party ended and we turned over the gallery to Alpha-Centuri, to promote rock concerts and fund various hospitals in town."
