This is a sculpture brought back from asia in the early 1900's and sold at the famous and still in business store in San Francisco 'Gumps'. After the great earthquake and fire in San Francisco Gumps burnt down and after they rebuilt they sent buyers to asia to fill the shelves and this was one of the pieces according to the granddaughter of the man who purchased it and is now selling it. The entire thing is hand made and the base is carved to fit exactly. The lid comes off and it the sculpture could be used as a vase or just as I use it as a decorative piece with the lid on. Standing on it's base with it's lid on it stands just over 15" tall, it's apx 9" wide at it's widest and 5" deep and weighs 12 pounds 6 ounces. It's a gorgeous piece that needs to be seen in person to be appreciated fully.
