PIRATE RUM BOTTLE, PORT ROYAL, 1692 This is brown glass rum bottle was found in the pirate strong hold of Port Royal , Jamaica & dates back to1692 or before. It was found in 1952 among the remains of a building along the old shore of the old sunken part of Port Royal harbor which was destroyed by an earth quake on June 7, 1692 when most of the port of the city was submerged. It is in very good condition considering that it was submerged in the wreckage for nearly 300 years! It is 11 5/8” tall x 2 13/16” diameter & is made of brown glass & has the casting dimple on the bottom. It was professionally treated & has been out of the water for over 58 years so there are no problems with deteriorating condition. There have not been any artifacts from this area for many years because the whole bay can no longer by dived in as the water is not fit for diving, swimming or boating as the sewage from Kingston is released directly into the bay! Artifacts from Port Royal are now considered very rare & are seldom seen at antique shows any more!
