Plate Soucer Tin Glazed 1700's Imitation Chinese Porcelain In the 17th century Dutch VOC ships started to trade with the far east, Indonesia and also China . Up till then Europeans hadn't seen porcelain before . The high quality, the thinness and the hard pottery impressed the late medieval man. Because European potters did not know how to match the Chinese quality they tried to copy it by using tin glaze on earthenware and decorate it in an Asian fashion . This went on up into the 18th century. The plate that is on auction is a fine example from the 18th century. It shows a large bird, probably should look like a kraanvogel, under a tree. Good condition for it's age. Some chipping to the rim, but no cracks or repairs. Packing will be superb off course! Feel free to ask for additional pictures if you like.
