If you are a collector of the finest Art Nouveau jewelry or perhaps you collect superior opera glasses or spectacles, then this auction is for you. This was not an easy item to photograph, the photos simply cannot capture the true beauty and delicate detail work that is clearly evident when in hand. DESCRIPTION: You are bidding on a superb highly cross-collectible estate treasure and rarity, a stunning high quality superior Art Nouveau C. 1895-1910 lorgnette created in platinum with old Europen cut diamonds embellishing the frames handle on both sides. Measures 4 1/2" across when opened, 2 1/4" x 1 1/8" when closed. Has an automatic spring loaded feature found on period Art Nouveau lorgnettes for opening the lorgnette which is in very good operating order. The lenses have some scratches and can be easily changed, if so desired. This lorgnette is hallmarked PLAT on the inside of the nose piece which indicates PLATINUM, see photo. T are 12 diamonds embellishing the handle, 7 on one side and 5 on the other side. They vary in size from approx. 1-2 pts. to 4-5pts. however old European diamonds are usually thicker than newer cut diamonds, 'carat weight is approx.' 15-20 pts. of antique European diamonds. T is a tiny micro spot on the handle that is very difficult to locate even with a jewelers loop, I closely scrutinized this piece prior to offering it. It appears as if 1 diamond is missing. Lorgnette is created with delicate early repousse work and very elaborate Victorian Art Nouveau period detailing, just lovely. The previous owner mentioned that her Grandmother acquired this from Tiffany & Co. while living in NYC but I have not been unable to find a Tiffany hallmark on this piece, this is mentioned as speculation. Quality is certainly comparable to Tiffany. ABOUT THE CHAIN : A wonderful and great addition is that the lorgnette has it's original 35" long exquisite antique hand made delicate 14K white gold oval link chain which features 11 full cut (approx.) 3-5pts. each European cut diamonds, approx. total carat weight on the chain is 30-40 pts. of diamonds +/-. The winner gets both the Platinum Lorgnette & the 14K White Gold & Diamond Chain as shown in the very 1st gallery photo. This beautiful treasure is being offered with a very modest reserve to insure that it sells. Please consider the quality, the age, and that platinum is a rare and expensive commodity. The antique 14K gold & diamond chain is an early and beautiful chain that would be priced quite high in any fine shop.
