The all cast brass main body of this student lamp is ornately embossed. Manufactured by Plume and Atwood, the cast iron weight found under the base is unmarked. The burner marked The Brilliant 1880 is high quality and may be found on the Harvard lamps in place of the commonly found P and A Harvard burner. The shade holder has a scalloped border. The shade measuring 7 at the base is not original, but is old. The chimney is also old, but not original to the lamp, it measures 11 high. The base is 6. Overall measurements are height 21 and width 12. This lamp has been electrified. These student lamps became known as Harvard, or Harvard Type, because they were initially ordered for the faculty rooms at Harvard University. These lamps are prized and highly collectable today.
