A fireplace pot is a wide open pot [2-5ft wide] and is used to house a fire for cooking. It is made from the clay collected by the women from the pits at the base of the Aibom Mountain, pottery in this region is essential for cooking and storage. This smaller version of the fireplace pot is made to be carried on the canoes and provides a light for tobacco and also a deterrent for mosquitoes. It was collected in the Middle Sepik in the late 1960's. Good condition with no damage and nicely decorated. Weighs 2.5kg. Meas: stands 25cms high, 27cms wide.
