- very rare with original cardboard box - complete with instructions, fixed on the top of the box - this item is in perfect condition, no chips or cracks Pocket-sizespittoon by "Dr Dettweiler". Blue glass container on narrow base which slowly flares to screw neck, with screw-on spring-loaded metal lid. The expectorate was coughed into the funnel of the larger opening and could be emptied by unscrewing the small cap at the bottom. "The pocket vial (flask) for sufferers from cough made according to directions from Dr Dettweiler Privy Medical Councillor of Falkenstein Taunus is intended to serve for the reception of the secretions of the bronchial tubes and lungs; its use is more simple and cleanly than that of the pocket handkerchief, or floor ...." ... Moulded on both sides of bottle, "Dr Dettweiler, height - 10,8cm/ 4''2/8 Dr. Dettweiler was a pioneer in the successful treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, demonstrating that it was possible to treat the disease in various climates and locations, rather than in just a few.
