Creative Process: Boleslawiec stoneware originated as folk art in the early 1800s. Today, in the small village of Boleslawiec Poland, skilled artisans are creating the world's most sought-after stoneware designs made of white clay found only in this region. Fired at 2200°C, this pottery is non-porous and non-toxic, with a high glazed sheen that speaks to it's quality. By meticulously cutting nature-inspired shapes into dried sea sponges from the Mediterranean Sea, the artist hand-applies the designs in a continuous stamping rhythm until the Traditional Pattern layer is complete. The Unikat (Unique) Pattern offers more intricate designs and adds hand painted brush strokes, resulting in a finished piece that is certain to become a collector's item.
