Each time, Millions of pilgrims came to St. Peter's Cathedral, to participate in the celebrations and to meet the Pope. As a symbol for the Holy Year the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica is opened only on this occassion - as a symbol of God's mercy. Pilgrims who enter the Cathedral through this Holy Door, under the usual conditions, receive the special Holy Year indulgence. Usually, the Holy Door is bricked up on the inside. In the 700 years old ritual of the opening of a Holy Year, the Pope himself strikes the brick wall with a silver hammer and opens it to the pilgrims. At the closing ceremony, it will be closed by the Pope himself. The Holy Door represents Jesus, the Good Shepherd and the gate of the sheep pen: "I am the gate. Whoever enters through me, will be safe." (Jn 10:9). The bricks from the Holy Door are considered relics and are given out only to special dignitaries. It is considered a special blessing to own one. THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC BRICK FROM THE HOLY DOOR OF ST. PETER'S BASILICA, closed at the end of the Holy Year 1975 by Pope Paul VI, opened by Pope John Paul II on March 25, 1983. It comes with the original CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY, autographed by Archbishop Lino Zanini, Prefect of the Reverendissima Fabbrica di S. Pietro in Vaticano, the "management" of St. Peter's Cathedral, confirming that this is one of the tiles of the Holy Door opened by Pope John Paul II (see the original photo of this historic event). , the authenticity is guaranteed. A blessed Easter in the light of the risen Lord! The last door on the right is the "Holy Door". This door is bricked up on the inside. On the first day of the Holy Year the Pope strikes the brick wall with a hammer, and so opens the door to let in the pilgrims who come to make the most of the indulgence. It will be closed by the Pope himself at the end of the Holy Year. The Holy Door represents Jesus, the Good Shepherd and the gate of the sheep pen: "I am the gate. Whoever enters through me, will be safe. He will go in and out, and find pasture" (Jn 10:9). The Holy Year is celebrated every 25 years. In this century two extraordinary Holy Years of Redemption have also been celebrated on the anniversary of Jesus' death on the Cross: 1933 and 1983.
