This is such a cool and unique piece of popeye memorabilia. It was made by Reliance, a New York Merchandice Company I believe in the 1930's. I cannot find the date anyw on the box , insert, or any bulbs or shells, but I have seen others on ebay/antique stores whom stated it is from the 30's and it sure appears to be so. It is in incredible shape for being what it is, you would expect a chritmas light box this old to be squashed. The outer cover is sturdy and bright in color displaying Popeye and Whimpy with a burger in hand and the christmas tree. Unfortunately someone labeled iceleces on the upper left corner as if it isn't obvious what is inside, Anyway, it is clean and structurally very nice. As seen on one side Popeye appears to have been repaired from a tear and on other side just a little area w it looks like tape may have been at one time, right under w it reads "See them illuminated". Other than these minor flaws this piece in flawless. The inner flap which is the same graphic as outer cover is perfect as you can see. The whole inner light box area is immaculate and more amazingly present. These are usually missing from the other ones I have seen. The bulbs all work, the cord is like new in 1930 and all the plastic covers are in terrific shape which is rare, even the graphics on them with many other Popeye cast members. I am also including extra plastic shades and bulbs with this auction shown. Not all those extra bulbs work. The extra shades are all very nice shape with minor issues, yet a bonus with the set.
