Popy Bandai Black Chogokin Aoshima Shin Getter 1 Japan Devil Wing Version Rare MIB History: In the early 70's the parent company Bandai spun off the toy division Popy and allowed them to utilize an unproven toy material for Japan-- die cast metal. That zinc based metal soon gained the trade name "Chogokin" or super metal alloy. In the late 70's the United States was introduced to this masterful company with the "Shogun Warriors" toy line. Mattel re-packaged and distributed an assortment of the Chogokin super-robots throughout the states. Popy robots are often considered to be jewelry-like in their refinement and represent the pinnacle in engineering for die cast engineering in Japan . Much of the paintwork utilizes at least 4 colors and has an exacting glossy polished appearance. Chrome parts, transforming mechanisms, shooting fists, swords, axes, hidden compartments, and even magnets are used throughout the line. DX or deluxe versions of Popy Japan toys were re-released in the United States (1984-1986) under the brand name of Godaikin (see the Godaikin picture index). Godaikins are nearly identical to the Popy, Japan releases. The Soul of Chogokin series was originally unveiled by Bandai in early 1997. Designed to appeal mainly to nostalgic adults rather than children, and featuring price tags to match, the gimmick-packed Soul of Chogokin diecasts are among the most exquisite versions of famous giant robot designs ever produced. The item currently up for auction is a Bandai Black Chogokin Aoshima Shin Getter 1 Devil Wing Version fully posable die-cast metal Action Figure. Shin Getter 1 is mostly diecast, and VERY heavy. He's coated with a beautiful gloss paint job and see-through panels that show the mechanics beneath. All joints click when moved, and he has ample articulation. Once you start to play with the toy you can tell how well this was made. The quality is equal to or better than Bandai's SOC line. All the points that look sharp are very sharp - this is not a toy for kids. You could kill someone with this toy. He's 21cm (8 in) tall, with and even wider wingspan. The wings are sharp, and spring out when you press a lever on his back. The toy comes with variant hands and an amazing Getter Tomahawk. The tomahawk has a metal shaft that adds a nice weight to the weapon. Due to the weight though, it can become challenging to find a good pose to hold the weapon. Aoshima released several versions of Shin Getter 1 in their Shin Seiki Gokin line. is a handy guide to the versions: Normal Version Comes with Getter Tomahawk Devil Wing Version Black version with glowing panels, Comes with scythe AND tomahawk Repaint Version White chest area instead of red, blue translucent instead of green.
