Item Description As soon as I saw this angelic madonna, I knew immediately that this was truly a fine piece of art . The quality of the painting and craftmanship is superb! Subsequently, I was not surprised to learn that porcelain manufacturies in Torino Italy are considered among the finest in the world. SIGNATURE : When I did a quick Internet search I learned from an Italian reference site that the underlying mark is one of a few that referred to the Piemonte region of Lenci and Ronzan. I believe that the mark reads, "Originale Giov Ronzan Torino Italy" . I am still a bit confused about whether or not the Lenci and Ronzan marks are interchangeable or actually referring to two different manufactories because every listing I find that says Ronzan mentions Lenci and vice versa. I always welcome comments regarding items that I am selling from the more expert collectors that will be helpful to potential bidders. Notwithstanding, the porcelain artists in Torino working under the Ronzan and Lenci marks were the best of the best as the form coupled with the artistry of the painting of the present piece attests . DATE OF CREATION : The underlying mark does NOT bear the words "Made In" before Torino Italy. Subsequently, it is likely that this piece was created prior to 1914 since the export regulations from 1914 onward required that the words "Made in" be included on all items exported into the U.S. Furthermore, beginning in 1890 McKinley tariff legislation required that all items bear the country mark of their origin. Since our piece has the country, it is likely that she was created after 1890 but before 1914. Although these rules of thumb are useful to date ceramics, t are exceptions with pieces created after 1914 not including the "Made in", but if you can combine these guidelines with other factors such as information regarding the manufacturer's mark and signs of aging, then they are quite useful. FACE : Her very fine facial features and floral accents of her clothing are meticulously painted. The softness of her complexion and the peaceful expression on her face are the two factors that capture the majestic, yet serene essence of this piece. T is a bluish tint beneath both of her eyes not only accents the blue floral blooms on her attire, but also gives her an etal quality. Her blonde hair peeks out from beneath her draping scarf that adorns her head (i.e., which appears to be an extension of her garment). You can see her blue eyes through her slightly open eyelids. The tops of her hands and her cheeks are a blushing pink; much subtler than the pink of her lips. THE QUALITY OF THE PAINTING AND UNDERLYING SCULPTURE OF HER FACIAL STRUCTURE IS TRULY AMONG THE FINEST FIGURINES I HAVE EVER SOLD! GARMENT : The white garment she is wearing further adds to the angelic quality. This garment drapes around her head and covers her body as well. As you can see, the outline of the garment has a blue striping that matches the floral buds throughout. Please Note: If you look ...
