This is a fantastic porcelain large vase ( 16") from China boasting a beautiful shape, beautifully hand painted with multi colored enamels, dated back to Qing Dynasty, late 18th century.
The elaborate depiction stretches around the whole body of the vessel and features a mythical dragon and a beautiful phoenix. Both the dragon and the phoenix are of utter importance in Chinese mythology and when depicted together, the phoenix symbolized the empress and the dragon symbolized the emperor. Whereas the dragon signifies greatness, goodness and blessings, the phoenix stands for fertility, good luck and longevity. What a lovely match! The piece is executed in multicolored enamels over the glaze , the craftsmanship shows a very high quality level and fine detail.
