Fabulous Portieux Garniture de Toilette Suedoise in Vert de Pomme or in English - Swedish (pattern) Vanity set in Apple Green. This beautiful 5 piece set is made in a moulded scroll pattern in a jade apple green opaline translucent glass. The set was first documented in Portieux catalogues in 1914 and appears again in a 1933 catalogue.

The set consists of 3 perfume, cologne, or powder bottles, a large powder jar, and a trinket box. The large cologne or perfume bottle has a PV France label. The oval trinket box has a molded Portiuex France mark. There is much debate on the meaning of the PV France label, which some attribute to items imported by Mitteldorfer Straus of New York and which alledgedly stand for The Peasant Village. I personally think it is more likely that the label stands for Portieux Vallerysthal. Vallerysthal was a separate company, but Portieux and Vallerysthal marketed their items together since the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

The set is in excellent condition with the exception of the powder jar. It appears to have a repair to the finial on close inspection and there is a small flake off the tip of the stopper to the large bottle. The rest of the set is in excellent condition.

I would like to thank the members of the Glass Message board for the assistance in documenting this gorgeous set. Many people offered their input but I would like to especially thank Glen Thistlewood, co-author (with her husband) of many fine books on carnival glass and website; Pamela Wessendorf, who owns a gorgeous private museum and website devoted to Pressed Glass, and Shirley Smith, collector of Hens on Nest and author of a fabulous website devoted to HON; and Ivo Haanstra, author of a fabulous little book Glass Fact File A-Z. Their respective websites can be found on My Favorite Links page.
