Made and Designed by VernonKilns, California Pottery Los Angeles ca. ~1940s This is a vintage Portland, Oregon after dinner cup and saucer demitasse set from Vernon Kilns California Pottery. Very brief background on Vernon Kilns. According to Bill Stern (2001), Vernon Kilns (Los Angeles) was one of the well known "Big Five" of the Southern California Pottery group (p. 42, California Pottery: From Missions to Modernism ). Vernon Kilns closed its doors in the early 1950s. The demitasse set from the Vernon Kilns Scenic America features the ROSE, logo of the city of Portland. The bottom of each piece is inscribed in maroon under glaze with the wording: Made For Maier and Frank Co. by Vernon Kilns U.S.A. Condition. The set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations. The transfer print is sharp and crisp and clear.
