Vintage late 19th or early 20th Century. Fold-out photo frame with not photo, measures approximately 3 3/4" X 3 1/4" inch on a face, about 7/8" deep when clasped. Made of some kind of hard plastic, resin or bakelite. Image area is surrounded by copper sculpted area and a flat oval-shaped copper embossed frame. Glass is intact. In very good condition and the hook clasp is still intact and in working order. Embossed pattern on the outside cover of the case, featuring a stars and stripe shield in the center surrounded by stars and banners and olive branches. "Union" is embossed at the top center of the uppermost banner. The case was designed for hard use, possibly military issue and could easily have slipped into a jacket pocket or saddle bag.
