This auction is for a PAIR of GERMAN 800 SILVER CANDLESTICKS, made circa 1880. The candlesticks are very tall, very lovely and well-made, featuring a grape cluster and leaf design. The candlesticks are monogrammed I can't quite make the letters out since they are very ornate and intertwinned, possibly "FK". T is very detailed and well-done engraving in a stylized Greek Key pattern on the body and stem. The removable bobeches feature repoussed grape clusters and leaves. The four feet are in the form of woody grapevines with grape leaves and a grape cluster. They are applied to the body. The candlesticks are very tall, measuring 14" in height and 7 1/4" in diameter at the furthest extension of the feet. They weigh 391 grams, or 10 troy ounces and 387 grams, just under 13 troy ounces respectively. Total weigh is right at 26 troy ounces. They are hollow, no cement or other filling. They are in good estate condition. T is a soft crease on one of the candlesticks, as well as a solder repair on the underside of the mid-section "ball" on the same one. The repair, since it is on the downward side and is actually hard to discern. I have photographed both, so a comparison can be made. I actually had these for a long time before I even noticed. They are a little off true vertical, but I have not tried to straighten them out. Wonderful patina! Hallmarked on the lower edge with the old German marks, and another mark which could be Austro-Hungarian, but am not sure since the mark is a bit hard to make out.
