This listing is for a pair of Van Briggle wall plaques dated 1944. They are of an Indian maiden & an Indian brave. The plaques measure about 6" x 4". Mine are marked a bit different than any others I have seen on eBay. They have the Native American & English name of the subject on the back. The Indian brave is the piece signed in the clay. It has the Van Briggle mark - Van Briggle - Colo. Spgs. - a plus + mark (possibly artist), then below the hole - A Ya Ni - (Big Buffalo) & then 1944 in red. This piece has no chips, cracks or glaze flaws but does need cleaning. The Indian maiden is the plaque signed in ink. It has the Van Briggle Mark - Van Briggle - Colo. Spgs., then below the hole - So Ya Zhe (Little Star) 1944. The maiden is the piece that has the firing flaws along the sides (see pix). These were definitely done in the firing. None of the separation on the sides can be seen when the piece is hung for display. (I thought perhaps it was only signed in ink because it was a second or something). It has the same wash glaze on the back as the one signed in the pottery. If you have any questions, please contact by e-mail before bidding.
