I am no expert in this area so please ask questions if you have them and please feel free to give your input . I can send additional photos if you need them. I have done some research and feel this is a pre 1700 Wakizashi - Unokubi Sukuri, Japanese sword with iron Ko-Nara Tsuba. I rescued this from a gentleman that was " cleaning it up" for his garage sale. It has been neglected and he was trying to polish it. As you can see the blade has dark spots and pitting mostly on one side. The iron Tsuba is Mokko Gata with a Sukidashi rim. It has overlaid copper or bronze decoration of an eggplant or squash and leaves. The wrappings and wood handles were disposed of before I got to it. The Tsuka (handle} has an extensive signature on both sides. I assume (hope) this blade can be brought back if it is in the right hands. The Fuchi is decorated with a spider and web and the Kashira shows a fly caught in the web. The Gilt Menuki are of a warrior with sword and a dragon or water buffalo ? I also have (not shown) the two wood sides to the Saya. Original Seppa is present also. The blade measures 20" overall and 15" to the notch. Thanks and good luck bidding!!
