This is a very nice, pre-1900 pinback badge, 1 5/8" tall, and 1 1/2" wide at their farthest points.......and hallmarked; "John Robbins Boston". The badge reads INSPECTION of EXAMINER underneath is the word BUILDINGS. I presume that this is a building inspector's badge, possible from the Massachusetts area, but that is purely a thought of mine.

As for dating the badge, I did some research on the John Robbins company out of Boston and actually found some interesting information which points to the fact that this was a company actively making badges in the mid to late 1800's, and the beautiful design and type of pin leasds me to believe it to be pre-1900.
