This auction is for a Pre 1913 Nissen Wagon Works Catalogue, Salem, NC. In 1834 John Nissen founded the Nissen Wagon Works in Forsyth County. In 1919, just before automobiles begin to dominate the market, the business will produce 50 wagons a day. C. F. Nissen purchased J. I. Nissen Wagon Works and presented this Catalogue and Price list of his celebrated J. I. Nissen Round Hound Wagons. This catalogue is 40 pages and measures 5 3/4" x 3 1/4". It has illustrations of each wagon and prices of each. This is a well written catalogue and price list as it shows great illustrations of each wagon. T isn't a date on the catalogue but Salem didn't merge with Winston until 1913, so it is dated before 1913.
Some of the wagons included in the catalogue are : One Horse Wagon with plank red and break $37.50 One Horse wagon with crooked frame red and brake (Covered Wagon style) $45.00 Two Horse wagon, with plank red and brake $65.00 (different sizes this being the costliest down to $47.50) Lumber or cotton wagon with brake $70.00 Two Horse wagon with crooked frame bed and brake (Covered Wagon style) $75.00 Log Wagon with brake $90.00 Dump or Railroad cart $37.00
T is a historical marker - Marker Title: NISSEN WAGON WORKS Location: US 311 (Waughtown Street) at Marble Street in Winston-Salem County: Forsyth
This is a unique piece of history of industries of NC as well as the US. The catalogue is in great shape as seen in the picture. I'll be glad to send more pictures if needed. Note: My grandfather lived on Nissen Ave for many years. These houses were built for the workers at the Nissen Wagon Works Factory which was just down the street.
NOTE : The winner will also receive a picture made in front of the J. I. Nissen Wagon Works of workers. It was made by Tom Hege Photo and Stock Co., Winston, NC. as noted on the back of the picture. Also, t is a statement "Remember Tom challenges the world in 1900".
