This is a rare June 14th, 1920 program (playbill) from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the RICHARD RODGERS and LORENZ HART musical comedy "POOR LITTLE RITZ GIRL" at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston. (The production would open July 28th, 1920 at the Central Theatre in New York City and run for 93 performances.) ..... This marked the first professional show for Rodgers and Hart who had begun collaborating the previous year when the musical "A Lonely Romeo" featured a single song contributed by the songwriting team. "Poor Little Ritz Girl" premiered in Boston but was substantially revised before moving to Broadway; Rodgers and Hart's score would later be supplemented with works by Sigmund Romberg. The ensemble cast included AILEEN POE, LULU McCONNELL, ALMA ADAIRE, FLORENCE WEBBER, VICTOR MORLEY, ROY ATWELL, ELEANOR GRIFFITH, EUGENIE BLAIR, EVANGELINE MURRAY, ELISE BONWIT, HARRY L. PEACOCK and DOROTHY SHADDACH ..... CREDITS: Music by RICHARD RODGERS; Lyrics by LORENZ HART (together, the composer and lyricist would collaborate on "The Boys From Syracuse", "A Connecticut Yankee", "Babes In Arms", "By Jupiter", "Pal Joey", "I Married An Angel", "I'd Rather Be Right", "Too Many Girls" and "On Your Toes" among others); Book by LEW M. FIELDS; Sets designed by ROBERT H. LAW STUDIOS; Costumes designed by CORA MacGEACHY; Choreographed by DAVID BENNETT; Produced and Directed by LEW FIELDS ..... The 36 page program measures 5 1/4" X 7 3/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, list of musical numbers and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios. Included among the advertisements are the Chickering Ampico Reproducing Piano (see scanned image), the Cole Aero-Eight Roadster, the Steinert Pianoforte, the Oakland Sensible Six Automobile, Victrola Talking Machine Company and White House Ginger Ale ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this program is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian .....
