Rare Blue JADEITE oval shaped bead from the Costa Rican Nicoya Culture, approximately 200AD. This bead is crafted from the rare blue jadeite, so loved by the Olmecs. The stone material was came from the same place that the Olmec blue jadeite came from--the Montagua Valley. Experts believe that this area is the only known source of blue jadeite in the Americas. This bead is not "jadeite containing" or "social jade" or "Mesojade". This is true jadeite. Superb condition. 14mm x 12mm. Rare beads such as this may be seen in the book "Pre-Columbian Art", featuring the Robert Woods Bliss Collection.
