You are viewing an excellent Mayan Indian artifact. This museum quality flint relic is a colorful Colha Chert. This piece dates from Pre-Classic to Terminal period of the Mayan culture, 250b.c.to 900a.d. This spear or dagger is 7-1/2 inches long, and shows secondary flaking to the handle, base and some of the blade. The pictures will tell the rest of the story. This piece is a multi-colored material exhibiting predominate tones of once banded sharkskin grey. A wonderful study piece for the black patina has not fully leached into the artifact to create the completely dark black color you see on some Mayan daggers. Density of the stone, soil conditions, and moisture level are just three of many variables that play into how elements color a piece or how deeply a patina may leach into or onto an artifact. This piece also has a unique shape exhibiting a slight curve to the blade. Exhibits excellent patina and from an old collection. Guaranteed to authenticate by any major authenticator in the business.
