Obtained from a WW II USN veteran... is an original US Navy Chief Petty Officer's hat badge . Size is 1 3/4" tall. USN in silver. Anchor and braided rope in gold. I believe the badge is made from brass. The original pin-back needle and latch are very solid and in perfect working order. Badge is marked STERLING. T is very slight tarnishing, but still a very beautiful silver and gold piece. I was kindly advised by another collector that this particular variety of US Navy CPO hat badge is rather rare and appears to have been in use from around 1929 - 1941.
