I have previously listed this sign at $750 and it didn't sell. I've lowered the price alot for a very quick sale! NO RESERVE to make sure it sells! Dating to the 1880's this is a very rare porcelain enamel over steel sign from Piel's Real Lager Beer On Draught. I've been collecting early breweria advertising items for about twenty years and I've never seen this sign before, not even in any beer advertising books. It was of interest to me because I am from Brooklyn and Piel's is one of the oldest brewers in Brooklyn and is still in business today. Early History... Piels was founded in 1883 at 315 Liberty Avenue in the East New York section of Brooklyn by Gottfried, Michael and Wilhelm Piel. This amazingly rare sign measures 12 by 24 and is made of porcelain enamel over heavy steel. It is in remarkably nice condition with some typical bullet chips to the porcelain. The finish still has a very nice shine, though I haven't cleaned or polished it. This very rare sign truly is a beautiful example of an early brewery advertising sign.
