I am offering a very nice ninth plate pre-war daguerreotype of an identified Civil War veteran by the name of George L. Binney. Binney served in the 2 nd Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War. He eventually achieved the rank of Lieutenant. This dag shows Binney in 1854, eight years before his service. T is a photographer's card behind the dag for Tyler & Co., located in Boston . T is a very light pencil identification on the card that reads, "George L. Binney. Boston . 1854." In addition, a type-written paper was found with the image indicating that the dag had been researched and the identification made in 1998. The dag is housed in a very nice leather case with the hinge intact. A copy of Binney's military records from the National Archives will be included with the dag. Binney mustered in on August 10, 1862 as a sergeant in the 2 nd Massachusetts Infantry at the age of 21, making him around 15 years old in this dag. He promoted quickly to Lieutenant. It appears that he served until April, 1865, primarily as an Aide de Camp to General Ruger of the 23 rd Army Corps. It appears that he was also promoted to Major and Captain after the war, for "gallant and meritorious services at the battle of Franklin , TN. " Additional research may shed further light on Binney's service recorfd. Buyer to pay all shipping costs. 's an opportunity read more
