This is a small precolumbian Teotihuacan mask-pendant made of fine jadeite. It is the last piece of a collection being offered in recent days on ebay, it is surely one of the best pieces. Color of the stone is blueish green, it was likely brought to the ancient city from Guatemala. This small mask is in excellent condition and the workmanship is fine. . It has been drilled in the back to allow being strung as a pendant in a necklace. This link shows a back side view: /~mlmcdon/teojade2.jpg . The jadeite itself is of high quality, this is the stone the ancient lapidaries called "quetzal chalchihuitl" - precious jadeite. Some have remarked on seeing this 'it is the imperial jadeite.' I don't think it's quite that quality since that term is reserved for the finest translucent Burmese jadeite. Still it's a rare and beautiful piece. Please add $8.00 for US Priority shipping within USA will include Insurance. International shipping is also available to most cities in Europe and Asia. This is a 3 day auction. T is no reserve. Good luck!
