We are that confident in what we sell! What does flatsigned mean? The world’s best-selling author, Stephen King, accidentally coined the term flatsigned. King needed to differentiate whether he should sign only his name (flatsigned) or inscribe the book to an individual. In talking with his office, I found out that Mr. King incorrectly believed that this term was being used in the book-collecting world. At that time, it was not a term used in the industry. Frustratingly, there was no true distinctive term given to books inscribed to a previous owner or those signed on bookplates then stuck into a book versus those just signed by the author, or flatsigned. FlatSigned means HAND SIGNED by the author but not personalized as in To Billy and FlatSigned also can not be signed by the author on a sticker or bookplate, then put into a book. FlatSigned is almost always a better investment and far more desirable than a book that is personalized To Billy and is far better than being signed on a sticker.
