Amazing autograph book from the 28th Congress of United States of President John Tyler in 1843. This 4.5”x 7” dark green cardboard covered book has 58 pages containing the original signatures of his Cabinet, The Senate, House of Representatives, even the Chaplains for both Houses. Includes the autograph of * President John Tyler , Feb. 9, 1843; Daniel Webster, Secretary of State; Abel Upshur, Sec’t of the Navy; Walter Forward, Sect of Treasury; John C. Spencer, Sect of War; Hugh S. Legare, Attorney General; Willie P. Mangum, President pro tem of the Senate [also acting Vice President]. Also included * John Quincy Adams , Representative from Mass. and 6 th President of the US (signed “John Quincy A”, he was 76 years old at this time) Approximately 274 signatures in this book. Others include: * James Buchanan of Penna (the 15 th President of the U.S.); John Van Buren of Kingston, NY (President Martin Van Buren’s son); Levi Woodbury (Senator)p.48 of New Hampshire, dated 18 th Feb. 1843, Woodbury was a U.S. Supreme Court Justice and a Governor of N.H.; * Millard Fillmore , Buffalo, N. York (later Vice President and President of the U.S.); JC Calhoun p.54 (Senator John Calhoun of South Carolina); Charles Stratton (later a governor of New Jersey; Wm. L. Dayton of New Jersey; Thomas Clayton of Del.; Roger L. Gamble, Louisville, Geo; A.M. McClellan, Tenn.; Thomas Butler King of Georgia; Wm. O. Butler of Carrollton, Ky. (later ran for Vice President); R.B. Cranston, Rhode Island; Thomas D. Sumter, grandson of the Revolutionary hero, Sumterville, SC; (vice presidential candidate) W.O. Butler of Carrollton, Ky; CJ Ingersoll of Phila.; James Cooper (later a Senator) from Penna.; R.B. Cranston of Rhode Island; W. H. Washington, New Berne, NC; Walter Colquitt of Columbus, Georgia (A Rep. and Senator, lawyer and preacher); two veterans of the War of 1812: Charles S. Sewall of Maryland and Samuel Partridge of Elmira, NY; and many, many others.
